The history of Hippo Zorg began 100 years ago in the Dutch town of Zwolle when on 7 October 1910 a veterinary surgeon established the Zwolsche horse and cattle insurance company, also known as the Zwollmij.
The Zwollmij was taken over in 1969 by the Utrecht-based company AMEV.
In 1992, AMEV took over the company Hippo Assurantiën. The companies merged to form AMEV-Hippo Paardenverzekering B.V., which was then based in Den Bosch. In 2005, the company adopted the name Hippo Zorg B.V.
On 1 December 2006, the animal insurance division of Interpolis was taken over. Finally, on 1 August 2007 Fairmount België became the brokers of Hippo Zorg.
In the spring of 2007, Hippo Zorg itself came under new ownership. The company was sold by Fortis ASR (AMEV) to the Amsterdam-based W.A. Hienfeld B.V., a company that was founded in 1874. (Fortis) ASR Schadeverzekering N.V. remains the risk bearer, while W.A. Hienfeld B.V. acts as the authorised agent for the horse insurance policies which are concluded through Hippo Zorg as intermediary.
Hippo Zorg has expanded over the years and now has a team of 23 employees who work according to very high standards to provide you with optimum horse insurance services. The staff are divided into horse experts (in the acceptance and damage departments) and staff with administrative training (for policy administration and finance). Thanks to their experience on the ground, our 5 full-time inspectors have considerable expertise in the acceptance and damage procedures. All these services are backed up by a part-time and independent veterinary consultant.
